Roucandane Great Danes

    Champion Roucandane Charlie Farlie JW

Charlie was born amid much drama on my birthday, March 24th, 1999. He was the only surviving puppy in a litter of three, born by Caesarian Section. The last thing I needed at the time was a fawn dog, so I resigned myself to letting him go.  However, by the time he was six  weeks old I knew I had something very special and Charlie stayed!

He came out at completely the wrong time of the year for the show season, his first show being one of the last in October. He was Second in Minor Puppy Dog and it was the last time he ever stood behind anything else in Puppy!

Charlie took 17 Best Puppy in Shows from 7 months to 12 months. He also took 2 Best in Shows from Puppy, one when he was only 8 months old! He qualified for the Northern Pup of the Year and we stayed  overnight at the fabulous Hilton Hotel. It was wonderful just to be there but imagine my joy when Charlie won through, amid the clamour of a Gala Dinner, and finally became Northern Pup of the Year. There were a lot of famous faces there and we had done it! It was a wonderful evening, one I shall never forget.

He went on to become a worthy Champion and sired several promising litters including Champion Roucandane Spirit in the Sky (Dalton), and CC winning Roucandane Spirit Song (Corrie)..  It was a huge blow to lose him at only five years of age to bloat. He was my first champion and one I shall never forget.
